I was minding my own business the other day, doing Bible study like I'm supposed to, when a phrase came to me and wouldn't go away. After a while I realized that God was trying to tell me something. Yes, it took God quite a few attempts to get it through my thick, self absorbed head, but it finally got through.
"MORE THAN ENOUGH"
For the rest of the day that thought rolled around in my head. After flipping through scripture after scripture, I came upon the Gospel of John chapter 2 and the Wedding at Cana.
Jesus, his mother and disciples were enjoying a feast in honor of the happy couple just getting started on a life together. It was a truly joyous occasion as it still is. A feast had been prepared and wine had been available as was expected. The only problem was the preparation for the feast was not enough.

They had run out of wine. So Mary brought it to Jesus attention. After a few choice words, Jesus stepped in. He told the servants to take the earthen jars used for their ritual cleansing of their hands and fill them to the brim. Now, these men could only fill these jars up just so much. So, there was just so much water available. Not only did Jesus take that dirty water and turn it into wine, there was more than enough to finish the wedding ceremony.
This is my point.
Whenever God or Jesus stepped into a situation they never did simply just enough for that one person or need. He is never JUST enough. GOD is MORE THAN ENOUGH. He doesn't simply fill our cup...he doesn't stop until the cup is overflowing.
WHY?
Why would Jesus do that? In the situation at Cana, the jars no matter how full they were would never be enough to fulfill the wedding feast. No matter what those men did, they would never be enough. Like the little boy with the loaves and fishes, he gave what he had and Jesus made just enough to feed the crowd....NO! He was more than enough! The disciples found themselves with a surplus!
Once again, WHY?
It's simple. When Jesus blesses us, he doesn't do it just to fill us up and make us fat and happy. He expects us to share. What happened after every miracle Jesus performed? The person healed would run through the town telling people what this man, Jesus, did for him. THAT'S what God expects from us. We are no to simply be full of Him. We are to be overflowing onto those around us; bringing the Spirit of Christ into each and ever situation.
So, as you go on your way this week, allow God to overflow you with his blessing and let what he does for you and through you effect all of those around you for the better!
JOHN 2:1-11
